Participating in NENA is a way of building a better community. Please take a moment to sign up on our e-mail list to receive announcements for events. NENA has several Sub-Committees that are the heart of our association. Volunteering for these Committees is a great way of getting involved in improving our community.

 From Our President

    Hello Northend Neighbors !!

Hello North Enders! My name is Kevin McGowan and I live in the Hyde Park Place Condos. We have a great NENA board that contains has a variety of opinions and expertise. I encourage all of you to come to our meetings which usually occur on the last Monday of every month. The meetings always include important discussion and debates on neighborhood issues as well as informative speakers.

We are doing our best to keep the website up to date, so please make sure to check us out at www.northendboise.org.   We are also working on a submission of the North End into the “Great Places in America” http://www.planning.org/greatplaces/index.htm survey being done by the American Planning Association.

As always, NENA and Jim Teeter are working on putting together the Hyde Park Street Fair which will be September 12-14, 2008.

Renae Walter, a fellow board member and I recently attend the Boise Metro Chamber Leadership Conference as a representative of the North End. We learned about mobilizing Business Advocacy for Infrastructure, Energy, Education and Workforce and took home a number of good ideas for the North End.

At our last board meeting, we approved FINE (Funds to Improve the North End) Grants to Longfellow Elementary and North Junior High.

We are doing our best to keep in touch with Hillside to Hollow (www.hillsidetothehollow.org) which is a group committed to preserving the Foothills.  H2H did a hike on April 26th in the Foothills to teach our neighbors about preservation.

We have approved a FINE grant for the May Day celebration on May 3rd from 4pm to 8pm in Camelsback Park.

NENA is involved in a number of issues and I have done my best to organize us into committees. If you would like to help us out in any way, the committees can always use additional volunteers.

Recent speakers at our monthly meetings include.

Boise City Police – Tony Davidson – Neighborhood Officer
Hulls Gulch Relocation – James Wylie – Boise City
Idaho Smart Growth - Deanna Smith
Kelli Fairless - Valley Regional Transit

If you would like to get involved with NENA in any way, please let us know. Please don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions.

Regards,
