What is a Candle Lantern, you ask? Its a repurposed two-liter soda bottle! Volunteers from North Junior High will help the kiddos turn their bottle into a “lantern” using a pipe-cleaner handle, colored crepe paper, and finishing it off with a well-secured tea light to illuminate their artwork. The Candle Lantern Parade is a North End tradition that we hope you’ll be able to join!

We’ve just received word that ACHD, formerly known for sticking to a strict street sweeping schedule, is now changing their approach. In the month of December, ACHD street sweepers will be out on North End streets between the hours of 7:30am and 4:30pm, opportunistically sweeping unswept areas.

Please park your cars on areas already swept to facilitate full removal of fallen leaves. When left on the streets, leaves clog storm drains and pollute the river.

This year’s Hyde Park Street Fair was among our most successful ever! Hyde Park businesses boomed, folks had great times, our inaugural parade was a smashing success, and we’ve had great feedback from the City of Boise and others about the level of care we take with the neighborhood and park.

It couldn’t happen without you, all of our neighbors and those who join us in our celebration of the unique and wonderful North End of Boise! For that, please accept our deepest and most humble thanks.

Please join us tonight, September 16, at the Hyde Park Street Fair Main Stage, where NENA will be presenting the Land Trust of the Treasure Valley with its $10,000 matching donation for Harrison Hollow. Since April of this year, residents of the North End have been pledging their support for the preservation of  ”One of the last best places,” 580 acres of natural area off of Bogus Basin Road. We will make the presentation at 8pm.

It’s an area long enjoyed by North End residents for biking, hiking, running, and natural beauty. In April, the North End Neighborhood Association’s Board of Directors approved a $10,000 matching fund, a dollar for dollar match to any donation by a North End resident. In August, The Land Trust of the Treasure Valley reached this match through a combination of individual donations, block parties, and house parties held by North End neighbors.

We at NENA are overjoyed to have the means to support such an incredible cause, and to preserve an important element of our local quality of life. We are able to do this because of funds raised at the Hyde Park Street Fair, Boise’s oldest neighborhood celebration. We look forward to seeing you at the fair!
