SCHOOL GRANTS

NENA Awards Nearly $10,000 in School Grants

NENA kicked off 2026 by delivering nearly $10,000 in grant checks to North End public schools. We invited educators at Boise High, North, Washington, Longfellow and Lowell to apply for grants through the Boise Public Schools Foundation. We are proud to have been able to fund every single grant that was applied for this year. These awards will support the learning and wellbeing of kids attending North End public schools! Giving back to our neighborhood schools is just one way that NENA supports the North End, all thanks to the annual success of fundraisers like Hyde Park Street Fair.

ABOUT SCHOOL GRANTS

NENA awards annual grants to neighborhood public schools. Each year, we invite educators and administrators from Boise High, North, Washington, Longfellow, and Lowell to apply for NENA grants through the Boise Public Schools Foundation–the entity that administers the NENA grant funds.

School Grant Guidelines:

  • Schools must be located within–or in the direct periphery of–the North End Neighborhood Association boundaries.

  • Schools must be public schools, tuition free for all students.

  • Applications must be approved by the appropriate school administrator / principal

  • Activities must have a clear educational impact and/or significantly impact teachers and students.

  • Activities should be limited to projects that benefit a reasonable number of residents who live or work within the neighborhood boundaries.

School Grant Application Process:

  • Each fall semester, eligible schools should be contacted by the Boise Public Schools Foundation with the school grant application information.

  • The Foundation should request that grant applications be submitted by no later than November 1.

  • School Grant requests will be reviewed by the NENA Grants committee members and recommendations will be presented for board approval at the final NENA monthly meeting of the year on the last Tuesday of November.

  • Applications should include the following information:

    • Name, phone number, e-mail and address of applicant and relationship to school.

    • Purpose and need, with sufficient detail on what activities will be involved and how these activities will achieve the grant purpose.

    • Amount requested should include documentation to justify the budget.

    • Timeline: A summary of starting and completion dates, and other relevant milestones.

FINE Grants Information

FINE GRANTS:

Funds to Improve the North End (FINE) grants are one way that NENA gives back to the neighborhood. Grants of up to $500 are available for a wide variety of projects to make the North End a better place. Recent grants have included funding for a community garden, traffic-safety signs, sidewalk stamps and air conditioners for elderly residents.

The North End Neighborhood Association awards up to 10 grants per year, on a quarterly basis. NENA Board
members will review applications and vote on projects at regular Board meetings every February, May, August
and November.

OTHER GRANTS:

There may be other grants that NENA supports that do not come directly from the NENA budget. These applications will be considered on a case by case basis but must directly benefit North End neighbors and not for-profit entities.
