NENA has a variety of committees and volunteer opportunities, spanning a wide variety of interests and each working on a different area of importance to the North End. Committees meet on a schedule set by each committee, and report out regularly at monthly NENA meetings.

NENA Volunteers:
-
Serve on various committees with a wide range of focus areas and time commitments.
-
Improve the neighborhood through NENA programs & grants.

Help organize one of Boise's funkiest festivals: the Hyde Park Street Fair!

Started in 1979, the Fair is a beloved annual tradition & fundraiser with nearly 200 unique vendors, eats & drinks, and two stages (plus a giant geodesic dome!) with killer lineups of music and entertainment. The success of the Fair is paramount to NENA, as it provides about 90% of our income each year.
Living in a historic district comes with much beauty and many benefits, but there is also a responsibility to preserve the character of the neighborhood.
The Historic Preservation Committee assists neighbors in navigating the (sometimes complicated) process of submitting an application to the City of Boise's Historic Preservation office for a Certificate of Appropriateness or permit, as well as monitoring projects moving through that process and providing testimony at Boise City Historic Preservation Commission hearings. This partnership with neighbors often saves homeowners a lot of time and money, as they will go into the application process with a better idea of what the Commission will - and will not - approve.
Planning & Zoning Committee members keep a close eye on projects moving through the City of Boise's Planning & Zoning hearing and approval processes, and provide testimony when needed. These projects can be residential and/or commercial, and may fall within or outside of historic district boundaries - but always within North End Neighborhood Association boundaries.
This committee works collaboratively with neighbors, the City of Boise, Ada County Highway District, and Boise Police to ensure North End streets are safe for all users to enjoy - whether they be pedestrian, bicycle, motor vehicle, or otherwise.
Do you enjoy walking the beautiful streets of the North End, admiring each home or building as you go? Then the North End Newsies might just be the volunteer group for you!

Newsies deliver the quarterly North End News to each doorstep in the North End. Each route encompasses part or all of a single North End street, with delivery stops ranging from about 150-350 per route. Newsies can volunteer for a quarterly route or as a substitute, if something less regular is preferred.
